ABOUT
About Finance by Ulku
Two kinds of personal finance advice dominate the internet.
The first is too vague to use. Spend less than you earn. Build an emergency fund. Start investing early. All true, all useless when you are staring at an actual decision with actual numbers.
The second is written by someone selling something. It looks like advice. It reads like advice. But the trade-offs are missing, because trade-offs do not sell products.
This site publishes the third kind.
What that means in practice
Specific figures, with the year attached. Contribution limits, tax brackets, benefit amounts and program rules reset every January. A surprising amount of financial writing online still describes rules that expired years ago, and never says so. Everything here carries a date.
The situations where the advice does not apply. Every guide includes them. A page that only explains when something is a good idea is not a guide. It is marketing with headings.
Primary sources. IRS publications. Social Security and CMS releases. CFPB materials. StudentAid.gov. Federal Reserve and Treasury data. Not other blog posts.
What gets covered
Budgeting and cash flow. Debt, credit and borrowing. Investing and retirement accounts. Taxes. Housing and mortgages. Insurance and health coverage. And the money questions that arrive with life events: marriage, children, education, divorce, aging parents, estates.
Around 190 guides so far. Each one is built to answer a single question completely.
Who writes it
Sadik Alperen Ülkü. Background, research process and the limits of what this site can tell you are on the About the Author page.
What this site is not
It is not advice. Nobody here is licensed to advise you on investments, taxes or insurance in the United States, and that is stated plainly rather than buried.
It is also not a claim that money is simple. Some of these decisions genuinely are not, and an article that flattens one into a rule is usually leaving out the part that would have mattered to you.
How the site makes money
Display advertising, plus affiliate links on some pages. No advertiser sees an article before it is published. None of them can influence what gets written. Details are on the Editorial Policy page.
